Trespass

#1: The Drive

The dead of night wasn't the best time to be an attractive red-head and out a walk all by herself. Especially when muggers and rapists were out, just waiting for helpless prey to come along.

She walked alone, humming a tune she made up a she went along. Her tight jeans and t-shirt left nothing to the imagination, but that's just the way she wanted it. She cradled a bag of groceries in her arms, to give her even more notability.

For anyone else, they'd be asking for trouble by dressing like that and walking down a bad part of town. Trespass, however, wanted the kind of people she'd attract. In fact, she was counting on them for a good time.

She was a predator and it's had been so long since she sunk her claws into anyone, too long for her tastes.

She sensed movement behind her and suppressed a smile. Like fools, they fell for the bait. They moved silently and probably in the shadows as well. Trespass wondered if they believed they had any idea what they were doing.

Trespass "accidentally" dropped the bag of groceries then crouched down to gather them back in the bag.

The group moved faster now, not bothering to mask the presence. Trespass counted six of them by their heartbeats. All seemed young and healthy and full of themselves.

She'd change all that.

They circled her. It was out in the open, but no one would call the police, not in this neighborhood. The gang counted on that little fact, like always. Just like they counted of their victim to be helpless.

But this was Trespass. "Helpless" was not in her vocabulary.

"Oh, please don't hurt me." She cried, wishing they gave Oscars for playing a helpless victim by a female vigilante. Her eyes tearing up with fake tears. "You can have my money, just please don't hurt me."

The group tightened their circle.

She acted faster than they could track. Not with telepathy, that would be way too easy and way too neat. Her stock and trade was brute force and she unleashed herself on them.

She took their legs out from underneath them with a sweep kick. She picked one at random and broke his leg by twisting it around one hundred and eighty degrees.

Trespass ignored his screams as she shoulder tackled another one into the building. She heard bones snap. Maybe it was the vertebra in his back or maybe it was just a few ribs. Trespass didn't care either way, just as long as he got hurt.

The others were already half a block away and she was about to jump after them, but three costumed figures beat her to them. The night air turned cold and ice formed under the sneakers, dropping them to the sidewalk.

A yellow blur handle some, while a red garbed woman handle some more. The remaining was handle by a shadow.

Pinnacle, Eclipse and Nighthawk. They were the Paradise Solders, the heros of Oasis, Texas. And the biggest bunch of do-gooders Trespass had ever met.

The gang was all bound with ice-cuffs, courtesy of Nighthawk's ice gun.

None were seriously injured and that didn't sit right with Trespass. The Paradise Solders were all more powerful than she was, she didn't mind being out powered, but they never used their powers any rougher than necessary.

Trespass would have broken bones and by doing so, she would have given the criminals a message to remember: Do a crime and expect to get hurt real bad.

The Paradise Solders refused to use violent methods and because of that, they would fight the same endless battle over and over again, until they were old and grey.

What confounded Trespass the most was that they actually thought criminals had human rights. Trespass believed criminals had only one right and that was: To get their ass kicked.

Nighthawk walked over to her and said. "I thought we asked you to stay out of this?"

"You didn't 'ask' me. You ordered me."

Pinnacle was next to his brother in a Pico-second. He was the speedster of the group. He was many things; super-fast, super-strong, super-tough, super-smart and a super-ass hole.

Trespass and Pinnacle had a brief relationship. It was doomed from the start. Trespass was a vigilante and Pinnacle was a "super-hero." A lot of people thought Trespass was a criminal, while those same people kissed Pinnacle's ass because he had a flashy costume and super-powers.

From Trespass' stand point, she did more for the city than any of the Paradise Solders. She went on daily patrols and battled the beast call Crime more than they did. The Paradise Solders sat in their secret base and waited to be called upon. They reacted instead of acted.

She was the complete opposite.

"Don'tyoutakethattonewithhim!" He was vibrating at super-speed. He was dressed in a bright yellow costume with a black mask, gloves and boots.

Trespass' fingers growing into claws.

"Calm yourselves." Nighthawk said to both of them as Eclipse flew overhead with her gold and red telekinetic energies surrounding her, leaving energy contrails behind her every move.

Trespass didn't give Eclipse a second thought. If it came down to it, Trespass knew she could defeat Eclipse, telekinetic to telekinetic.

For that matter, Trespass knew she could take on all three of them. They may have the edge power wise, but she was by far and large the nastiest of them. One of her former Masters called her "the Mistress of the Cheap-shot."

Nighthawk was the most dangerous of them. He had a wider range of powers and he knew how to mix and match them effectively. Trespass almost considered him her equal. Almost.

Pinnacle may be the most powerful of the three, but he was the most arrogant of the bunch and had the biggest single track mind Trespass ever encountered. Speed equals victory. That's how he thought and that's how he'd be defeated.

Eclipse was barely out of her teens and her lack of full combat was her biggest weakness. And to compound the matter further, Eclipse relied fully on her TK too much.

Trespass wasn't scared or intimidated by them. She's faced bigger and more powerful foes. Besides being a strong telepath and telekinetic, Trespass had a healing factor that let her survive any wound imaginable and live to fight again. Many times she was healed instantaneously. She was also a shape-shifter with animal sharp senses and increased strength.

Trespass turned and started walking away. Pinnacle was in front of her before she could see him coming. "Get out of my way."

"Vigilantesaren'twelcomedinOasis."

"Fuck you."

Eclipse landed next to them and started talking to Trespass in a whiny voice.

Nighthawk watched as his sister and brother confronted Trespass. He knew Trespass was dangerous and a loose cannon, but her fighting and detective skills were unmatched by anyone on the team, including himself.

He knew that she'd be a threat sometime in the future. She'd go too far on some one and it would be up to the Paradise Solders to stop her. That would be a nasty fight and maybe all of them would pay with their lives if they had to tangle with Trespass.

But what if they could reign her in before that? Nighthawk knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that Trespass was beyond rehabilitation for her violent ways. Instead of making Trespass shy away from violence, what if the team could control her violent tendencies? She'd be a tremendous help to the team.

What if she was invited into the team? Maybe all Trespass needed was to feel part of a group. It was a long shot, but it was the only one he had.

Pinnacle would be against it. He hated Trespass ever since they broke up. Eclipse had voiced that it would nice to have another woman on the team.

"If you won't leave, then why don't you join us." He said before he realized it.

"Nonononono." Pinnacle said.

Trespass traded glances with the three. Eclipse gave her a small smile and a nod, Nighthawk didn't move a muscle, Pinnacle was shaking his head at near sub-sonic speeds.

She considered joining them just to spite Pinnacle.

She offered her services to them before, but they were all to high and mighty to accept it. Now Nighthawk and Eclipse would be willing to take her as a team member, even if Pinnacle was against it.

They feared her, that was the only explanation. She knew from personal experience that the best ways to deal with fear was to push aside or pull it close and embrace it.

She didn't feel like being embraced at the moment.

"No." Trespass said.

"But . . ." Eclipse started.

"I said no." She said and then concentrated on their minds, looking for their most secret fears.

Their mental barriers were useless against Trespass' telepathy. It wasn't that their barriers weren't tough, but Trespass was a master. She was taught by the world's best and since then, she's developed new techniques that only she knew and understood.

Her lips curled into a nasty little smile as she found what she wanted.

The others saw it and reacted, but not even Pinnacle's super-speed wasn't fast enough.

She blocked Pinnacle's vision and other senses with telepathy, then knocked his balance off. All of this effectively prevented him from using his primary weapon: his super-speed. He was still super-strong, but being blind and deaf made it next to impossible for him to catch some one like Trespass.

Trespass snuffed out Eclipse's telekinetic flames with a telekinetic blanket of her own design. Telekinesis was Eclipse's sole power and so she relied it exclusively. She never bothered to learn martial arts or even basic boxing techniques. Her mistake and she was paying for it now.

Nighthawk had a deep rooted fear, making it the easiest to find and the most exploitable. He feared he would loose control of his powers and destroy everyone near by. Trespass created a mental image for him, showing the destruction and the death that he'd be responsible for. Then she shut off the part of his mind that allowed him to control his powers.

It was a nasty trick to do to him, but it wasn't permanent. Just like the others, he'd recover in a few minutes.

She left them in the street.

Pinnacle was walking around with his arms out in front of him. Eclipse was sitting up, hugging her knees to her chest. Nighthawk was lying on his side, curled in a fetal position.

She slipped into the night, like she did so many times before. The shadows were her friends and the rooftops was her highway. She couldn't fly using her telekinesis, like other people she knew, but she did what she has done since she was a child.

She overcame adversity.

Trespass could jump long and far with her telekinesis so jumping up and onto the roof of a three-story building was child's play.

She landed silently.

Her jeans and t-shirt shifted, forming a non-reflective black body suit, covering her face, but leaving her hair uncovered. Her hair went from short and curly red to long and straight black. Her fingertips grew into her infamous claws.

Now, she was in her working clothes and ready for whatever the night threw at her. She picked a direction at random and ran into the night.

As she ran, two figures watched her through binoculars. Both were dressed in black and doing their best to stay out of sight. One was busy typing info into a laptop computer. The other was fidgeting.

"We should've killed her." She hissed.

He stopped typing and looked over at her. "Patience is a virtue."

"Not for me."

"I noticed." He started typing again. "We'll kill her soon enough."
