History: Baroness Melina Curfman originally hails from the Coalition State of Chi-Town. She grew up on a farm outside the city of Des Moines, in the area that used to be the American Empire state of Iowa. She developed her psychic powers at an early age, and willingly submitted herself to the Coalition's psychic registration program. Although at the time a firm believer in the Coalition's ideals, the persecution she experienced as a registered psychic made her question her beliefs, especially after one incident where she was forced to sit in a separate area from her family at a restaurant in Des Moines they were visiting.

It was during an attack on their farm by a Thornhead demon that her family lost their lives. It was only the courage of a D-Bee cyber-knight named Sir Carrado that saved Melina's life. She was fifteen at the time. Her beliefs towards D-Bees changed radically that day, and she joined Sir Carrado's adventuring party.

Melina came to see Sir Carrado as a surrogate father. He helped her develop her psychic powers, as well as guiding her to overcome her anger at the world following her family's deaths. For twelve years she traveled with him, becoming a powerful psychic hero in her own right and obtaining a large cache of valuables from various exploits.

When she was approaching the age of 30, she decided it was time to retire from the adventuring life. Sir Carrado was headed for the ruins of Washington, DC, where he'd heard of a settlement called the Republic, and asked her to join him on the trip. She agreed, but a day or two before reaching the Republic they ran afoul of a borg named Roger McLeod, who ruled over a smaller settlement on the Chesapeake with an iron fist. It was Melina who fought McLeod in personal combat, her psi-sword and psi-shield blazing against his bionics. McLeod refused to yield when she offered, and she was forced to kill him.

Realizing that this town was now without a protector or leader, Melina offered her services to the town as protector. While it was true that she had earned the right by defeating McLeod in combat, she wanted to show that she was different from him. At first, the townspeople asked her to be queen, but she replied, "The town needs someone more approachable than a queen to lead them." She eventually settled on the title of Baroness, and the townspeople renamed the town in her honor.

Since then, Melina has grown into her role as Baroness Curfman. She used her own money to build up the town's defenses, as well as funding the factory and grain mill, which she later sold off to their current owners. She retains her position as baroness, and has started looking for a suitable heir to take over.

Known Psychic Powers: Baroness Melina Curfman possesses the psychic powers of telepathy and psychokinesis.

To start with her telepathic powers, Melina possesses the ability to read the surface thoughts of others and to broadcast her thoughts so that others can "hear" them in their minds. She is able to broadcast up to a hundred yards away without straining herself, and read minds up to the same distance, so long as she can see the person whose mind she is reading. At a closer distance, usually within fifty feet, she is able to more deeply probe the minds of others. She does not normally engage in this behavior as it is both highly taxing and she has a deep respect for a person's privacy.

Melina also possesses a number of psychokinetic powers. She is a skilled telekinetic, able to lift tremendous weights through sheer telekinetic force with ease. She has also been known to use her telekinesis to enable her to leap tremendous heights and distances.

Perhaps the most visible embodiment of her psychokinetic power is the production of a blade of pure energy, which she calls a psi-sword, and an accompanying psi-shield. The psi-sword is able to slice through most materials with ease, while the psi-shield is strong enough to defend against most conventional and energy attacks.
Other Abilities: Baroness Curfman has shown herself to be an adept swordswoman. She has also proven to be a fair and just ruler.
