Johnny Fearless

Johnny Fearless has a long and checkered history. He was inspired by a character in one of those cheesy late-80s or early-90s porno movies that pretended to have a plot. I want to say the movie was entitled Bat-Bitch, but please don't hold me to that. The character was a reporter who spoke solely in voice-over, even in conversations with other characters. (I can only imagine the blooper reel for that movie.) Based on this, I then made a character for an online silly-superhero shared universe with those characteristics, even going so far as to give him his own "limited series".

At one point, a fellow gamer had announced that he was putting together a modern-day GURPS campaign, with hints that it would be a "strip away the candy-coated topping" type game. I decided that a reporter would be suitable for such a game. On a whim, I decided to give this reporter the same moniker as my voice-over reporter character from that shared universe. To explain the moniker "Fearless", I made it a play on his last name, "Ferrifous", as well as making it so that he could not taste anything, hence not being "afraid" to eat foods others considered to taste "disgusting".

As a character, I think he did quite well. The game was revealed to be a GURPS In Nomine game. The biggest problem was that he really didn't mesh well with the other player-characters, who were all college-oriented. Fearless was a full decade older than the others and had a job which kept him away from the college for most of the game. I had to make up reasons for him to be there when the group went overseas; I ultimately ended up having him "on vacation".

Will I play Fearless again? Perhaps. I'm curious to see how he stats up in GURPS 4e, due to the point differences in stats and skills. I never did spend his remaining from when the game folded, either....
