Harry Longenburger

Status: Inactive
System: D20 Modern and Heroes Unlimited

Harry was my first character who ended up being made for two systems. He started out as a D20 Modern character, for an Urban Arcana campaign. He was later converted to Palladium for a Nightbane game; I'd used the Heroes Unlimited build for him, eschewing the various classes in favor of a more generic build.

Neither game lasted very long. The D20 Modern game had a good start, but conflicts between the GM and the one player whose character did not mesh with the rest of the party led to it imploding.

The Nightbane game actually lasted longer; however, as he was the only non-Nightbane in the game - mainly due to his age and the GM's assigning Nightbane, magic, and psionic traits almost at random - he did sort of become the outsider. He was also older than most of the other characters by about a decade. My own schedule at the time certainly didn't help, I'm sure.

I'm not sure if I'll play Harry again at any point. It'd have to be a suitable game and/or party, not to mention that as I'm drifting away from class-based systems I'd be converting him - again - to another system (likely Tri-Stat dX, GURPS, or White Wolf's World of Darkness).

Physical Description:
Harry is a 5' 5" tall man with an athletic build, wearing a set of denim coveralls and a leather aviator's jacket. His hair is cut in a short, marine cut. What looks like a ratchet screwdriver is dangling from his belt.
History:
Harry Longenberger comes from a line of military pilots who have flown in the armed forces since WWI. His father flew F-15s during the '70s and '80s, his grandfather flew B-19s in WWII, and his great-grandfather reportedly flew Sopwith Camels during WWI. He grew up as a military brat, shuffled from base to base depending on his father's assignment. It strained his relations with his father when he opted to go to West Point rather than the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, until he came home after graduation four years later with his gold bar and his wings, indicating that he was, indeed, a pilot rather than a ground-pounder.
Harry had been interested in helicopters since he was ten, amazed at a helicopter's ability to hover in the air. So his studies at West Point focussed on becoming a helicopter pilot. He's qualified to fly the UH-1N Huey, the UH-60 Blackhawk, and AH-64 Apache helicopters, as well as several civilian models. He also learned how to repair them when they needed repairing, often hanging around the hangars while off-duty to learn from the techs.
Harry had a problem, however. He tended to think little of those serving as Infantry -- a holdover from growing up Air Force, he claims -- and tended to say the wrong thing at the wrong time to more experienced NCOs and officers. As such, the Army was content to keep him where he was, only giving him a silver bar instead of a gold one after two years (promoted to first lieutenant) as he was the oldest second lieutenant in the service. After another two years, Harry noticed people getting promoted to Captain ahead of him. After mouthing off about it to his Company Commander, who basically told Harry that his mouth was preventing his promotions, Harry started putting out feelers for the private sector.
After a total of four years as a lieutenant in the Army, Harry resigned his commission when a national realty company grew interested in hiring him to fly their executive helicopter. Seeing this as a chance to remain flying outside the service, he eagerly signed on.
Harry currently lives in a small two-bedroom apartment with a fellow pilot for a national airline, and is dating a stewardess who works for said airline. Well, "dating" isn't the right term, as their relationship is purely sexual. He believes in being self-sufficient, and has learned his way around the kitchen enough to survive on more than hot dogs and frozen pizza. When he does go out to eat, he prefers to hit family diners or local bars, avoiding fast food. His taste in music tends to be more classic rock and power rock, feeling that "most rock older than '66 is too mellow, and most after '94 is just someone screaming into the mic with someone hitting one chord repeatedly behind him. And pop is just annoying." His collection does include some Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, and Christina Aguilera because "they're easy on the eyes".
