In 15 P.A., researchers for Ishpeming (Northern Gun) discovered video footage of this conflict in a pre-Rifts "fallout shelter". Less than a year later, the first Road Hog appeared on the market.
Over the past 90 years, almost ten million Road Hogs have been sold. This has made the Road Hog Northern Gun's top selling combat vehicle every year. The design has been copied by nearly every other manufacturing kingdom. Many non-Northern Gun knock-offs offer heavy SDC armor instead of NG's standard MDC plating. Although stylistic changes have occurred over the past nine decades, the overall design of the Road Hog has remained consistent, coming in a standard half ton pickup.
Despite the fact that the vehicles do not offer as much armor or firepower as power armors or robot vehicles, or even as much as tanks or APCs/AFVs, the Road Hog has earned it's place. Most people who buy a Road Hog cannot afford even the cheapest tank, or know how to use them. Most people, however, can drive a car or small pickup, which adds to it's appeal; there's no specialized training involved.
