Novobisirsk-class Patrol Boat
Perhaps the oldest model of ship in the Earth Defense Alliance fleet is the Novobisirsk patrol boat. Unlike the other ships in the fleet, the Novobisirsk is not a self-sustaining ship, having limited space on board for supplies. Most of the space not taken up by the ship's systems is taken up with either supplies or ammunition. In many respects, the Novobisirsk is closer to a flying tank than a starship. Originally the mainstay of the Russian force deployed during the Pondrurite Wars, Novobisirsks are typically deployed in squadrons from space stations or heavy carriers. Although they have a long and illustrious past, they rarely see heavy combat nowadays, typically being assigned to patrol in-system trade routes and cargo convoys, protecting against pirate attacks.
Occasionally, a few Novobisirsks find themselves on the open and black markets. These are typically sold without weapon systems, but enterprising adventurers, smugglers, and mercenaries can usually take care of that little drawback.
There are other models of patrol boats in use by the Earth Defense Alliance, its member nations, and the independant worlds, but all follow the same basic frame. M.D.C. of the other models may fluctuate by 20% to 50%, and they may have different weapons loadouts.
