Domestic Skills


A character can make any of these skills of professional quality by selecting the same skill twice. This adds a one-time bonus of +10%, and note that the end result is of superior quality.
Bonsai: Tending, trimming, and growing tiny miniature trees known as "Bonsai". Experts can tell the difference between new (under 50 years old) and truly ancient Bonsai (hundreds of years old). The character can also estimate the value and quality of the miniature tree. Base Skill: 50% + 4% per level.

Chess: The character is adept at the game of chess. Note that while everyone is able to learn the game without the skill, those with the skill have knowledge of specific strategies, and be better at the game than the average Joe. Base Skill: 30% + 5% per level of experience. Please note that those who are not skilled at the game can still play with a base skill of 20%, with no advancement.
Original Skill

Cook: Skill in selecting, planning, and preparing meals. A roll failure means the cooked food is not properly prepared. It is edible, but tastes bad (i.e. greasy, too spicy, sour, burnt, etc). Base Skill: 35% + 5% per level of experience.

Dance: A practiced skill in the art of dancing. The character is especially smooth and graceful, a joy to dance with. Can learn new dance steps/moves much more quickly than someone who cannot dance. Base Skill: 30% + 5% per level of experience.

Fishing: The fundamental methods and enjoyment of fresh-water fishing. Areas of knowledge include the use of lures, baits, poles, hooks, and lines, as well as the cleaning and preparation of fish for eating. Also includes a knowledge of freshwater fish, turtles, and amphibians, their habits, and taste. Base Skill: 40% + 5% per level of experience. Roll once every 20 minutes to see if a fish is successfully caught. A failed roll means it slipped off the hook, or is too small to clean and eat.

Floral Arrangement: The artful and creative arrangement of flowers in an aesthetically pleasing manner; a painstakingly difficult art that takes months to learn and years to truly master. Base Skill: 30% + 5% per level of experience.

Gardening: This skill offers a basic understanding of plant care and garden design. It can be both the ability to grow enough food to eat well, and/or the skill at creating beautiful, decorative gardens that create a feeling of tranquility and harmony with nature; Zen gardening. Base Skill: 34% + 4% per level of experience.

Go (Japanese Game): As chess is the most widely acceptable intellectual game of the west, so Go is accepted as the most "enlightening" game of the eastern world. In many cases one's skill at Go is seen as much more important than ability in the fighting arts. A victory at the intelligent game of Go easily outweighs any ten wins in single combat. Base Skill: 30% + 5% per level of experience.

Mime: The artful(?) combination of two other skills, prowl and sign language, to create a form of silent entertainment(?). Requires: Prowl, Sign Language. Base Skill: 30% + 5% per level of experience.

Play Musical Instrument: The character has learned to play a particular musical instrument with a fair amount of skill. The sound is generally pleasant (except when a bad roll is made). Note that each specific instrument requires the selection of this skill. For instance, if a character can play the bagpipes, kazoo, and mandolin, he would have to select the skill three different times. This skill also includes the ability to read sheet music, if combined with literacy, or at a professional quality. Base Skill: 35% + 5% per level of experience.

Poetry: Creating good, and sometimes inspirational, poetry. Includes all forms, including Haiku, limericks, and even song verse. Base Skill: 35% + 5% per level of experience.
Original Skill

Read Music: The cahracter can read musical notation, accurately producing music by instrument, by voice, or by whistling. The character can also transcribe music into written form. Sight Reading is when the character attempts to play something as they read it for the first time, something that requires a roll for every page of music played. Base Skill: 42% + 3% per level of experience

Recycle: Base Skill: 30% + 5% per level of experience
Mutants in Orbit

Sewing: Practiced skill with needles and thread to mend clothing, add patches, replace buttons, and do minor alterations, as well as cut and sew simple patterns. Becomes Tailoring if selected twice. Base Skill: 40% + 5% per level of experience.

Sing: The simple ability to read music and carry a pleasant tune. Of professional quality if selected twice. Base Skill: 35% + 5% per level of experience.
