[Arsenal] ------------------- Why are we here? Because we're here. Roll the bones. --------------------- * Sylvia eyes the seas one last time... oO Am tired after that...amazing how a scroll can wipe one's energies. Oo *sighs* * Curuar sits in the crows nest, his longbow near to hand [Arsenal] now, is anyone going to search the dragon's corpse before it gets pushed overboard? * Monika will if nobody else will. (keep the meat for food?) * Curuar scans the waves with spyglass and Mark 1 Eyeball Not a chance in heck. Though I did ask Syl to give it a prayer as they gave it to the sea. * Monika searches ze corpse of blue dragon. Sylvia: It talked. I wouldn't eat it. :^) I was ordered above [Arsenal] Monika: in that case, as it seems you are the only one, gimme a search roll. [Arsenal] C: you volunteered (true hehehehehehe) * Sylvia will give it a prayer 1d20+2 * Prozac throws the bones for Monika (1d20+2) and gets 17. * Sylvia will walk to the dragon as Monika searches and mumble a prayer to the god of light (OOC: This is unskilled, mind you all...) * Sylvia *bows* her head "Guide this one's light to the afterlife. To where his beliefs ran...forgive what evil he had done in his young life. A waste it was...but necessary. Guide him well." [Arsenal] Monika: you come across a small bag that seems rather light, yet clatters as it shakes. "And the light found its way even through the darkest tunnel. May Navor guide you and protect your travel." * Sylvia opens her eyes *sighing* * Monika gets the bag [Arsenal] do you open/empty it? * Sylvia *sways* slightly and *leans* back against the mast. ( ooc: hey does Res do the same affects to the caster as it did in 2nd ed?? ) * Monika @ARRRGHS. Never try to mention an email problem in front of my parents. Ever. [Arsenal] Syl: not from a scroll... [Arsenal] out of curio, what was the effect in 2nd ed? had to have bedrest for quite awhile hehehehehe took a great toil upon the caster [Arsenal] nah, not from a scroll of res... the one who scribed the scroll prolly slept for a week, though cool then scratch me *swaying* then hehehe savvy? [Arsenal] n/p... back to the game... * Monika gives the bag an experimental shake and takes it belowdecks where nothing can accidentally wash overbaord. [Arsenal] The dragon, having been relieved of its goodies, is then pushed overboard. * Sylvia watches sadly then walks back to her fav spot and look to the seas [Arsenal] the crest of a few approaching sharks are seen, closing on the dragoncorpse * Monika opens the bag ((AFK a minute)) * Monika OOCly gets a cookie or two. [Arsenal] Monika: inside, you see: 1000 gp, an amethyst, a ruby, a sapphire, a violet garnet, a small feather, a wand, and a sheathed scimitar I look at the feather. [Arsenal] it seems heavier than a normal feather. [Arsenal] it's made in blue-green colors, and seems to have what looks like an anchor painted onto it * Sylvia fingers the wood from the risen deck, caressing it gently as thoughts of her past ramble thru her mind. The wind gently blows thru her long red hair about. I put the feather back in the bag and take it back above decks. "Captain?" [Arsenal] "Yes?" * Monika holds up the bag. "I found this on the dragon's body. I think what's inside ought to be distributed among the crew." ((back)) [Arsenal] He nods. "I know a few people would appreciate what's in there. Do your best to distribute it fairly." * Paradigm takes the wand * Curuar continues being a polesitter "So grubby. Don't worry, Neil. I was saving the wand for you anyway." [Arsenal] And Paradigm is unable to cast the spell that's stored in the wand. * Bourne eyes the gathering. "Something up?" *** Paradigm is now known as Neil I am! :) "I'll have to research this." * Bourne walks in and eyes the group. "*whistle* Where'd this come from?" * Sylvia eyes the sharks devouing the carcass as the ship passes them oO Well at least somethings got something out of this mess...Oo "The dragon's body." "Perhaps we should split the money among ourselves?" "The ruby I'll keep for myself." "Sounds reasonable. Ship's shares as usual?" "I think the feather would be best with the captain." "Agreed. That's a ship's equipment." " [Arsenal] Neil: etched into the base of the wand is one word. "Happystick" "Can I see the wand?" "Of course, since I prefer a rapier to a scimitar, I think the sword is best given to Veshengo." "Sure." * Neil hands it over, wheras Paradigm would have greedily broken it before handing it off. "Ship's shares on the gold, no question." * Neil takes the sapphire * Bourne tries it out. Does it seem to have the Staff enchantment? I.e., does it extend my mage's touch? [Arsenal] B: No "Hm. Have to find someone who can analyze stuff to figure this out, I guess." He gives it back to Neil. * Neil shrugs, taking it back * Bourne picks up the garnet. "Cute." What's its weight? weight on the ruby too, please? "Could I perchance have the bag itself?" [Arsenal] (weight? the ruby's worth 600 gp, garnet's worth the same. Not sure what the weight of those is) "Sylvia, would you mind if I spoke with you for a moment?" "I don't see why not. Seeing how you gave the supreme effort into killing the beast, I have no quarrel with letting you take the bag." * Bourne puts the garnet down, uncomfortable with taking something this big for himself. "I think I'll just wait for a share of the gold. Everybody be fair about dividing up the good stuff." * Sylvia glances over her shoulder at her name being called. "Umm? Oh sure.." *walks over to him* "What is is?" * Sylvia spies the group looking at things. "What's all this...?" * Neil smiles, picking up the bag and taking it as his own. "I gave my life for that fight, aye, but it wasn't truly necessary. M'lady, I do not have the ability to fight toe to toe with another dragon, and I didn't before I died, either." "I wear no armor but the skin on my back, and though it is rather rugged, and I was rather unsociable at the time, I can't see how a man injured by a fall could be prioritized over a man with a dragon on his back." "Very few can go toe to toe with a dragon." She smiles warmly. "I thought you were grand." * Monika saves the amethyst for Cu, then. "I died." "Next time I'm being splendiferous in the act of killing something and getting killed in the process, I would greatly appreciate the healing a bit sooner." * Neil sighs, going belowdecks to examine the wand. "All life is precious...regardless of race or qualities. Any of us would have died. I was to heal you...but it breathed before hand." ((brb)) "Sylvia, I think he meant that Curuar would have lived, and Para... Neil was in serious danger. He was just suggesting better triage." * Bourne shrugs. [Arsenal] (btw, for those looking to distribute the gold to the rest of the crew, goblin tribe included, assume the 1000 gp is yours to split among you as you please. There will be enough left over to give evenly to the rest of the ship, as needed) * Sylvia watches Neil walk off and *sighs* "Yes, I know." "He should've moved as soon as the man was in front of him... but he stayed his ground." [Arsenal] (the man wasn't in front of him yet) ahhh perdon.. scratch that thought he had * Curuar continues being a crow-substitute [Arsenal] he only called for it... the crew moved after the dragon "Well, tactics aren't really my thing. Nor healing, for that matter. I try when we have to, but I'm still a little squeamish on it. I dunno. As long as you two don't have any ill feelings. You did save his life after all." "It is in the past... I will pay more attention in the future and try to be there closer. The only feelings I have is sadness due to his life being taken and that as well as the dragon's." "The main thing I think he should get is his demotion released. After all, he did die for the ship. But that's Captain's call." * Monika continues to puzzle out a way to divvy up the plunder, seeing as how Neil has laid claim to a gem, the wand, and the bag it came in. *** Miles (Zegon@c-24-15-245-98.client.comcast.net) has joined #HighSeas *** Miles is now known as Veshengo Baa Ze oi Vesh *** Mode change [+o Veshengo] on #highseas by Arsenal (Did I miss something?) [Arsenal] (oi, Vesh... just divvying up the loot) * Sylvia *eyes* Bourne "Perchance you should talk with the Captain on that?" (Feh, okay.) "Maybe." He tests the windage. "Veshengo! There you are. Hey, the dragon had a sword that looks like it's suit you." * Sylvia *nods* half-heartedly and walks back to the port side of the ship. oO Only the seas can bring the calm to one's center.Oo She *sighs* again closing her eyes as she takes in the scents of the sea and of the ship. Slowing her breathing and reducing her heart rate. -s+d (I found a bag on the dragon's body. It's got about 1000 GP for us to split, a ruby (claimed by me), a garnet (claimed by Bourne), a sapphire (claimed by Neil), an amethyst, a wand (given to Neil, only to find he can't use it), a Quaal's feather token (given to the ship as it is of the anchor variety), and a scimitar.) * Veshengo brushes his hair back with his hand. "What's up now?" He just came up from below decks doing... well, something. A sword, hmm? Throw it here1 ! [Arsenal] +" +" * Bourne waves Veshengo over to the pile, where he's setting out the crewmens' shares of the gold. "Ah, Veshengo. There is a very interesting scimitar I found in the dragon's personal effects. I have no use for one, and was wondering if you did." "I certainly do. Let me take a look." * Bourne eyes the garnet again, picks it up. "Hmm... classier than gold. Tell you what, I'll call this for mine." He divvies up his share of the gold among the other piles. How much you taking, Bourne? No gold, just the garnet. * Veshengo walks over and hefts the scimmy, taking a few fluid slashes with it around him. Fortunately for you, he knows what he's doing and doesn't hit you. "I wonder about the wand. If neither you nor Neil can use it... maybe..." (Who's Monika talking to?) [Arsenal] the scimitar seems to be of excellent manufacture, and the thrusts seem to add a little extra on their own. It's perfectly balanced. (read: +1 scimitar) * Monika is speaking to Bourne * Veshengo whistles. "Nice. Oh, as for the wand, Sylvia might be interested in it. I remember someone in my caravan who used a wand for healing magic." He says off-handedly. * Monika gets up, claiming the ruby, and walks over to Sylvia. "Sylvia... Veshengo just made an interesting suggestion. Perhaps you might be able to use this wand we found." * Veshengo raises an eyebrow and stops his display, walking over. "What've you got here? The extra gold the beast was carrying?" * Monika nods in Veshengo's direction. * Sylvia opens her eyes "Umm? Wand?" * Veshengo chuckles. "This will compliment us nicely." "Yes, a wand. Neil has it now, as far as I know, but he cannot use it." "Yeah, we're splitting it up. Captain's share... *he points* mate's... other officers'... crewmens'. You did pretty well, Captain might suggest a bounty extra for you." * Neil comes back up from belowdecks, walking over and handing the wand to Sylvia. "This wand cures light wounds. I cannot use it myself." "Why, speak of the devil!" * Sylvia eyes the wand and takes it gently. "Then it shall be used for the crew and you all then." * Veshengo grips the scimitar and sheathes it, placing it in his backpack. He grins. "You think?" "Is *that* what it is? Funky. I might be able to give that a go if Sylvia's out of power." * Curuar continues his vigil [Arsenal] (wand has 30 charges left) [Arsenal] Cur: gimme a spot check [Arsenal] and an Int check 1d20+1 * Prozac throws the bones for Curuar (1d20+1) and gets 17. 1d20 * Prozac throws the bones for Curuar (1d20) and gets 3. "I guess I'll hold onto it then." Ars: Use modifiers for the INT check? [Arsenal] Cur: whatever your Int modifier is +2 [Arsenal] so... 5 * Sylvia looks back out over the sea. oO The wand is a good thing... using it for the crew and the group will definitely be handy. OO "How about this... you can have a share of the gold, or you can take a gem." [Arsenal] Cur: you spot what looks to be a Marach banner sticking over the horizon. [Arsenal] (each gem is worth about 1/2 the gold... and I *think* all the gems are accounted for) * Curuar sings out. "Marach colors of the !" -of +off "Wow, don't we feel lucky." [Arsenal] bow. [Arsenal] i.e. dead ahead * Bourne 's head jerks up. "Back to business, boys! Someone put that gold in a barrel, we'll divvy it out later!" * Bourne looks ahead, attempts to determine the relative speed of the two ships. * Veshengo takes a good look, then helps put the gold back in a barrel. "How far are they?" * Curuar tries to get a better look with his spuglass -u +y [Arsenal] B, V: neither of you can see the colors yet. [Arsenal] Cur: you figure about 20 nautical miles * Curuar calls that down the amethyst isn't accounted for, IIRC, Ars * Monika helps Vesh. * Sylvia looks toward the general direction as well * Sylvia surveys the damage done to the ship to see how much is left for repairs "I wonder if we're in any shape to try a run just after that dragon," he says to no one in particular. "Hey, if everyone's standing, I don't see why not." [Arsenal] "Raise Caer Zitheral's colors." The banner of the neutral nation is raised; you're now running under false colors. * Curuar keeps an eye on that Marach ship * Sylvia *chuckles* at that... oO Brings back memories...Oo * Curuar tries to make out the ship's bow art and figure when it's close enough [Arsenal] Cur: it's getting closer. You can make out that it's a yacht by the time the others are able to see the banner. * Sylvia watches the ship as well * Curuar calls down the class of ship * Monika somewhat sourly gets bitten by the nostalgia bug as well. . o O (Home... or at least the place I was born. It surely was no home to me.) [Arsenal] "We're down to just the four cannon, with our ballista out of commission. Think we have enough strength for them, or should we just dance past 'em?" "We seem to be closing, sir. I've a wind ready if you want it." "A yacht? Hardly going to be much of a complement, I think." "Possibly a rich man's ship, though. Is it under our letter of marque to take yachts?" * Curuar tries to make out gun placements and whether or not they're gunports are open [Arsenal] "We've got new orders, so I don't want to take foolish risks and risk losing any of the crew. Opinions, Mister Bourne?" "Captain, I could try one of my spells on the ballista if you like. It will either work or not. No harm will come if it doesn't work." [Arsenal] the captain idly nods to Sylvia. * Sylvia goes to attempt the spell upon it [Arsenal] Cur: it doesn't seem to have gunports. ( ooc: nah they're juz cloaked hehehe ) . o O (Using archers, possibly mages?) "CAP'N! No visible guns!" "New orders, sir? If we have another mission... oh. That business." "If we've another priority, then I'd say leave it. We've picked up some gold from that thief we just dispatched. Ship's expenses are good for a while, and the men are paid." "I must confess I have my doubts. For all we know, that ship could be just some noble going out for a jaunt." "Greet the yacht in passing and be about our business." [Arsenal] "Yes. That business. We'll continue to run under cover of false colors and continue on our way to New Hope." "Perhaps you should tell us what our orders are, sir?" * Curuar scans the yacht's deck to see if he recognizes anyone aboard her [Arsenal] Cur: you can't seem to make that out just yet 'k . o O (Here I was wondering if I was cut out to be a privateer, and a hopefully-less-violent mission comes our way. Kaimana, you've got yourself another offering of thanks coming. Hell, let's make it a small thank-you all around the pantheon.) [Arsenal] Sylvia's spell manages to fix the secondary breaks in the ballista, but the burn damage doesn't repair itself. [Arsenal] it's still out of commission * Veshengo walks about the deck, idly whistling. * Sylvia *sighs* "Well I at least tried." * Neil walks up to the ballista, casting mending on it "*Can* you tell us anything about our new orders, sir?" * Sylvia *walks* to the bow and eyes the ship as it nears [Arsenal] Neil: your mending spell does less than Sylvia's * Neil sighs, then looks back to the Capitain. Lemme know if we get close enough to the other ship for face ID "So, sir, might you please drop the senseless vagaries and tell us where you're taking us?" * Sylvia eyes the ship, oO A yaut now that's an interesting thing... the things that could be on it. I *know* someone who'd get a kick out of taking it. Oo She can't help but smile and chuckle [Arsenal] "All I can say right now is that we're making our way to New Hope." * Bourne sighs. "Very well sir." "If it's just new hope then why'd we get our ship plated in Ironwood and enlist these goblins?" We got our ship plated in Ironwood? (No, we got the ship permanently turned into Ironwood.) [Arsenal] the yacht comes close enough for the officers on board it to come to the deck and salute "Just drop it for now. We got company." [Arsenal] (Yep... ironwood and permanence cast by a druid and wizard simultaneously.) [Arsenal] the captain salutes back. * Neil salutes as well. Ah, I remember now. * Bourne joins in the general respects. "Maybe we should attempt to board them then Veshengo? Sure, go ahead, jump on the boat." "Ssh. We're in hearing distance, and we would have prepared beforehand if we were going to do that." "While I could, that wouldn't be very bright." "Then stop speaking as if we ought to." * Monika mutters, "Oh, for the love of Kaimana, don't tell me Paradigm's back!" [Arsenal] *snicker* ((What Neil said was plainly sarcasm, not an honest suggestion like Paradigm would have spat out)) "Did I say we should?" [Arsenal] "Lower the false colors." * Bourne eyes the people. Bit of a long way from proper civilization for a pleasure cruise. What kind of folk do they look like? "You're acting like it." [Arsenal] B: the sailors on deck seem to be the same type as on board your ship. *to Captain* "Suggest we wait until out of sight of the yacht, sir?" * Veshengo puts his hands out. "Now, if I was acting like it I'd definetly have my weapons drawn, wouldn't I?" * Sylvia eyes the people on the other ship * Monika examines those on the other ship as well. What are they doing? * Curuar scans the yacht's deck and hands * Veshengo glances over at the other ship and shrugs. [Arsenal] "Point... I've been flying the crossbones too long." Equipment on board? Is it deckchairs and pillows, harpoons and oil vats, fishnets and scalers, gunports and shot? "Aye, that be true, but it's merely an exaggeratve stance that I'm taking in order to persist with my conversation with the Cap'n, which I see as a more imperative matter." [Arsenal] Equipment on board appears to be minimal, at least from what you can see. Ornate carvings on the doors to below-decks. . o O (Private, I bet. Noble, at least.) [Arsenal] (a particularly adventurer-unfriendly baron? ;) [Arsenal] without much ado, the ships pass each other... * Sylvia *smiles* and nods at those on the other ship * Neil turns to the Cap'n, speaking in hushed tones. "Perhaps sir, you, Bourne, and I can discuss this in your cabin." * Monika breathes a sigh of relief. * Curuar watches the yacht until it's beyond the horizon [Arsenal] *to Neil* "Nothing needs to be discussed." * Veshengo just looks at the ship go into the horizon. "Well, that was nice." "If you're leading us to our own demise, I would have to dissent sir." "Geeze, don't have any confidence anymore, do you?" * Neil turns to Veshengo. "Stop eavesdropping and get back to work." ( ooc: I ain't dropping no eaves, sir! sorry couldn't resist ) [Arsenal] "You'll learn more once we get to New Hope." * Veshengo has been working what little work has been needed to be done. "Not my fault you're loud. I'm just sayin' to have some faith in our captain." "Fair enough cap'n." * Neil turns to Veshengo. "I've died for this ship and this cap'n." "Have you?" [Arsenal] everyone, give me an intelligence check d20+2 * Prozac throws the bones for Neil (d20+2) and gets 13. 3d6 * Prozac throws the bones for Bourne (3d6) and gets 14. "No, but I got covered in soot because of your former self. Or is it your current self still?" d20+2 * Prozac throws the bones for Veshengo (d20+2) and gets 14. Pass. [Arsenal] B: what is your IQ again? 14 1d20+2 * Prozac throws the bones for Monika (1d20+2) and gets 17. 1d20+3 * Prozac throws the bones for Sylvia (1d20+3) and gets 11. "CAP'N! Yacht is cuttibg the horizon!" "Both of us would have done such an act intentionally. Soot isn't lightning. It's not your place to doubt my trust in the captain, it's mine to decide whether I do or don't. I have died for this ship, you have not. You have NO place to question my loyalty." -b +n [Arsenal] "As I expected." * Veshengo just whistles. "Did I mention a *thing* about loyalty? I said faith, not loyalty." * Sylvia turns to eye the ship "The words to me are synonymous." "Anyways, I have no ill-will torwards you. Or I didn't until you decided to pull that stunt." "Frankly, I don't really care. You're crew. You do your job, I do mine. Your job is not to throw in witty insults." * Monika nudges Sylvia. "Aren't we going the wrong way for New Hope?" "Maybe if you'd have shown that lingual grace as physical grace in your attacks, I wouldn't have DIED." * Bourne tests the wind. . o O (Coming from the southeast. Well behind u.... what the?) "Captain... you did say New Hope?" "And no they aren't. Loyalty is obeying the commands of others. A devotion if you will. Faith is the belief in something or someone with no sign or proof." "Because we're headed for Gohiong, sir." "Seems that your crutch of faith is blind." [Arsenal] "Actually, we are headed for New Hope. We're just going the long way around." * Sylvia eyes Monika "I was wondering that myself." "Now, by all means, I'm done with this conversation." *blink* "Get over the death already. Sure, dying ain't fun. And who said I was part of a church?" *blink* "I died An HOUR ago." "And you're alive again. Probably in better health than me, thanks to Sylvia." "Long way? Now that's interesting." Is it common knowledge that the world is round? * Curuar continues monitoring the yacht "Not so." [Arsenal] yes. I'm using a little something on your map that seems interesting. "If I were as virile as you, I'd be humping the bedamned mainmast." "Ooooh... kaay..." * Monika can't resist interjecting into Neil and Vesh's conversation. "Forgive me for interrupting, Neil, but I always believed that loyalty could only be demonstrated through the display of manifest actions, often defiant, when confronted by insurmountable obstacles in the form of confrontational and irrational enemies." Bourne ponders this for a moment. * Bourne breaks in to a big grin. . o O (Adventure on wild and unknown seas. I don't know what we're doing, but I *like* it.) "Now *that*'s what I'm talking about, sir." "That being said, is there something I can get you, Neil? Perhaps a book or chalk and slate or something?" [Arsenal] Cur: the yacht seems to be keeping pace with this ship. * Monika holds her grin on Neil "Perhaps you could demonstrate the act of dying for Veshengo here so perhaps he could conceive of it as an act of loyalty." . o O (That doesn't look right.) "CAP'N! Yacht is flanking us!" * Sylvia looks back at where the yacht is Pacing us. Flanking would imply that they were coming up alongside. :^) "Wow, you really are feeling dense are ya. I don't question your loyalties, you did die. Quit trying to make yourself out to be a martyr though." What Bourne said [Arsenal] The captain smiles. "As I expected. Maintain vigil." * Sylvia ignores the conver and watches the ship "Seriously, I fear that I have become too attached to my life, but the way things are going, we might all demonstrate such loyalty in the near future." * Curuar gets to spend more time away from the lively banter and watch floating wood. Joy The captain said that to Curuar? [Arsenal] B: yes. "Say another word and you get my last fireball. Period. I won't have thos insolence." * Veshengo turns to the ship. He grins at Neil. "I'd like to see you try." [Arsenal] The captain sends someone up to relieve Cur, and turns to Neil. "Nobody is fireballing anybody." "Is that a dare?" * Neil looks to the cap'n. [Arsenal] "Or would you prefer a night in the brig?" "Show your loyalties. I have done no harm to you, just engaged in some witty banter. Perhaps you'd like to try and 'finish it' with a fireball." "I thank you, good sir, for proving the Captain's point." "I'd prefer, sir, to know where we're REALLY going, to know WHY, and for you to show a BACKBONE and not take a member of your minor crew insulting me." "But I don't get any preferences here." "I'll be stepping off ship when we reach wherever it is we're going." * Sylvia continues to watch the ship * Curuar climbs down to the deck [Arsenal] "First and second, that is on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know. Third, as a result of your demotion, crewman, you don't outrank anyone anymore. Take the insults like a man, not a spoiled rich brat." "Master Bourne, does the wind say anything about that ship? I don't like the feel of it." * Veshengo hops down to the deck, tumbling on the landing. "Why don't you promote HIM then sir, as you put my clearly insane and pompous ass in charge of things to begin with." * Sylvia watches the yacht closely watching for any tale signs of anything suspicious other than it following "Neil, for the love of Kaimana, stuff a sock in it before the Captain has you spending an afternoon at the gratings!" * Veshengo just laughs when Neil mentions that. "Oh, that's good. Still, we got something comming, ne?" "I don't listen to the wind quite like that, Curuar. Though we passed them and now they're pacing us, so they must have deliberately altered their rigging to do so." "Prob seeing if we change the colors...or following for 'protection'... as if though." She *snrks* at the latter part of her statement "Yes, sir. I hope they aren't anything more than being cautious, but I somehow doubt it." * Sylvia leans against the railing watching the ship * Veshengo walks along the railing, watching the ship. * Curuar stays near Bourne * Monika keeps her eyes on the ship tailing the Rajni. * Bourne keeps his eye on the sky and currents. *to Captain* "If you want to outrun them sir, give the word. I can put a wind in our sails that'll have us out of sight of them in a few hours." * Neil distances himself from the rest of the crew, walking towards the front of the ship. [Arsenal] "Look, Neil. All I ask is that you trust me, as a captain. As far as the military rigors you're used to, they're lax on this ship. Insults or fancy banter, they're just words, and I don't care how you two get along-or not-so long as the ship survives. That was a brave thing you did, standing up to the dragon. I'm cutting you some slack here. I'm cutting you both some slack." [Arsenal] "You don't get along, that's your problem, not mine. You start tossing fireballs at fellow crew-or even threatening to-that *is* my problem." "I'd just like for him to stop openly disrespecting me, sir, as I feel he does to you in the process of bothering you with this. My questions towards you as far as our destination was concerned were perfectly well grounded and logical, and I can't see any reason for him butting in on us other than a chance to be an idiot." "Or an attempt to make me look like one for no given reason." [Arsenal] "Don't let him antagonize you, then, and don't antagonize back." * Veshengo keeps on walking. Walk walk walk. [Arsenal] Vesh: you run out of ship *snicker* *snrk* "Fine, I'll just kill him BEFORE he gets a chance to speak next time." * Veshengo turns and walks back then. [Arsenal] "No deaths on board ship." * Sylvia blocks it out as she continues to monitor yacht "Then he should keep quiet." * Neil says this matter-of-factly. [Arsenal] "And you should ignore him." The captain says this matter-of-factly as well. * Veshengo steps down from the railing and leans against it. He mmmms... "Wow, you have a really strong arguement. Let's see, talk and die, or watch you make a fool of yourself. Hmmm..." * Bourne turns to Curuar. "Since you don't seem to have much to do, there's a small barrel near the mast. Grab it and head belowdecks. There's an amethyst in there that I think you deserve for that stunt you pulled from the crow's nest with the dragon. Divvy up the gold as ship's shares for the men, into everybody's baggage, and bring it back with the officers' cut when you're done. "It will come easily if he shuts up." * Neil balls his left fist, taking a step back from everyone and holding his arm out towards Veshengo. "KEEP TALKING!" [Arsenal] the captain shakes his head. "If he doesn't, ignore him anyway." He turns and walks away. "Say another bedamned word and SEE WHAT HAPPENS!" Neil: Veshengo's on the other end of the ship. I doubt you heard that. ;^) "Eh, yeah." *scratches the back of his head, embarasses* "About that. I didn't jump, the big lizard knocked me out of the rigging before I even got up there." [Arsenal] "But, if you kill him, I kill you. Got that?" * Veshengo laughs. "Sure! But what about?!" * Neil points his arm up towards the mainmast [Arsenal] The captain pulls out his pistol, and cocks it audibly. "Drop the arm." oO Ummm yacht out in the middle of no where and now following our projectory line of travel. Wonder wonder...Oo *to Curuar* "Okay, keep the amethyst in the barrel, then. We'll figure out someone who should get it." * Bourne eyes Neil, quietly goes on alert and readies a Rain spell. * Veshengo starts walking torwards Neil, completly non-threatening. "No, really. What do you want to talk about? Because, the way I see it, you're a person, I'm a person, and we're all people." "I, unlike you sir, do not take insults like a grain of salt." * Sylvia closes her eyes to focus, ignoring all and everything around her * Neil sighs, taking a knee. "Maybe you should then." He chuckles. "Because the way you act, people will insult you intentionally or unintentionally." "Can you not see I've enough trouble with my OWN demons to be victim to yours? Aye, I'll threaten sir, and mean it." "But no threat need be delivered if you just kept it in or said it to someone else and let me be." * Monika takes Veshengo by the arm. "I know he makes it criminally easy to insult him, but he's suffered enough for one afternoon, wouldn't you agree?" * Veshengo shrugs and sighs, saying quietly to Monika. "But it's so *easy*." * Curuar looks from Bourne to where Bourne's looking. *quietly* "Damn. He's gone dolros again." *slips an arrow from his quiver and stands ready to knock it* *to Curuar* "Put away the weapon, do what I said with the gold. Don't forget your own share." *to Bourne* "Aye, sir." * Monika replies quietly. "Yes, it is. Hardly sporting, if you ask me. My father always said to never engage an unarmed opponent in a battle of wits." * Veshengo calls over to Neil. "Well, if you ever want to talk philosophy, games, or just insult someone, I'm here." He grins. "But don't think I won't bite back." [Arsenal] The captain reaches over, and lowers the arm for him. "Let him be. He's not worth it." * Neil looks to the Captain. "I was taken on a daily basis, beaten, tortured by clerics bent on 'fixing' me. Even before I was committed, I was teased and pelted with rocks. I have power, sir, and by all of it I will not surrender it again. Not to you, not to any man alive." * Neil rises. * Curuar is VERY tempted to say something... * Monika turns back toward Neil. "Sooner or later, you'll learn that not everything is about power. And that power is not everything." * Bourne says very gently, "Neil. See about repairing the ballista, please. I think the materials are in the forward hold." [Arsenal] "One wise Hong once wrote, 'it is the wise man who knows when to fight, and when not to fight.' Surrender, victory, and death aren't the only three options." Power is nothing if you don't have the freedom to use it. "Power is nothing if you don't have the freedom to use it." "It is not a want for pity. I'm well aware that I'm either on the brink of or down below sanity. I am stating now that I will not be thrown back into a hole in the wall. I will not go back to being teased." "If both are the only profit staying on this ship holds to me, sir, then I'll be stepping off when we reach port." [Arsenal] "There are alternatives. Mister Veshengo, the next crack out of your mouth to this man will have you in the brig for a night." . o O (Veshengo, *please* just respond "Aye sir.") * Bourne looks over at Veshengo, tries to communicate this silently. * Veshengo sighs. "I make no promises, but I'll try to keep from speaking with him for the rest of the time he's here." [Arsenal] "Good." * Neil doesn't brighten at the captain's words any more than if he himself were to be the one threatened with the brig. He himself stands, ready to hear what the captain's judgement to him might be. [Arsenal] "That goes for you, too, Neil. Any antagonism on your part towards Mr. Veshengo, warranted or not, will have you in the brig for a night as well." * Monika lets out a breath, realizing that's about as good as it gets on a privateer. "Aye sir." [Arsenal] "Now, I believe Mr. Bourne is right, we have a ballista to repair. As that is your department, Neil, hop to it." . o O (I never knew he had such desperate memories...) "Sir, is that ship approaching us one we wish to be rid of?" * Sylvia opens her eyes after achieving her focus and continues to *eye* the trailing ship [Arsenal] The captain returns to the top deck, where three gobbos are fighting with the wheel. "Not at the moment. Keep a steady course. Oh, and Bourne, take the wheel from those three." . o O (No way. Our captain's too much of a showman to provoke an action this early. Maybe that's why I signed on with him.) "Aye sir." Bourne hops to it. * Neil moves over to the ballista, examining it to see how he might go about getting it fixed. * Curuar moves over to Sylvia. "You have a bad feeling about that ship, too." "And if we just want to outpace them, sir, I've a wind ready." [Arsenal] "No, I expected a ship to follow up, so hold steady. We'll be headed southeasterly soon enough." "Aye sir." * Sylvia eyes Curuar "Not bad...but elusive. I just hope it doesn't turn out for the worse. It could just be curious or using us for protection. I hope curiosity is it." "Let it be so." *offers Sylvia the use of his spyglass* * Sylvia takes it and looks thru it; studying all she can see (people & ship & equip) * Veshengo shrugs and kind of wanders about doing the things he needs to do to keep the ship running. * Monika attends to her duties, the stress of the moment now a fading memory. [Arsenal] Neil: the crosspiece, the rope, and two support beams need replacing. ( see anything out of the ordinary thru the spyglass? ) [Arsenal] Syl: nothing out of the ordinary. Regular crew, one officer that you can see. * Neil enlists some nearby crewmen as aid, asking one to check the hold for the parts needed ( clothing/uniform? faces ) [Arsenal] the officer does appear to be wearing Marach insignia ( sides of the ship still 'bare' ) [Arsenal] Neil: the parts are available. [Arsenal] Syl: from what you can see... you're looking at their bow ahhh * Neil takes the crew down to the hold with himself, fetching the parts and trying to repair the ballista * Sylvia eyes the officer closely and how folks interact with him [Arsenal] Neil: you have two of the crew, one of which is an elf carpenter, work with you. [Arsenal] within a few hours, the ballista is servicable. [Arsenal] Syl: He seems rather informal with the crew, even waving at a few. Oddly enough, all of the crew you see are human; there's not one non-human among them. [Arsenal] Take 5 to RP amongst yourselves, nature calls. * Sylvia *hrms* to herself as she watches * Curuar allows Sylvia to hang onto the spyglass for a while and goes about his duties * Neil sighs, sitting at the prow of the ship, dangling his feet over the edge of the ship "Marach don't believe in non human race correct? Ummm officer." * Bourne ponders air-shaping spells in his head as he feels the wind and current. * Monika looks up in Sylvia's direction. "Sylvia, dear, you're thinking of Redwater." * Curuar works his way around to Neil. "Neil. A word, if I may?" "Strange then.. they're all human and the man is a Marachian officer." She hrms again * Arsenal returns re "Speak what you will, curse me in Elvish, do whatever else you do." "I do not seek a confrontation. And I can see how you might misconstrue earlier words as affrontery. Since your resurruction, I have noticed that you are more stable, but you still seem somewhat... erratic. If you need a willing er, I will hear what you wish to say." "The saner side of me has taken much hold since my death, aye, but I'm not strong enough yet to withhold any regression to the man you knew as Paradigm if I'm continually provoked." [Arsenal] who got what gem again? <- garnet "One's past does color the views of his comrades, admittedly. I will speak the others, and see if they will be willing to moderate their wordds." <=--- ruby "I was born this way. The situations thrust upon me had made it worse, but I can still stand. I'm out here because among people near-insane I might gain respect." "I don't truly wish death among anyone on-board, just silence. My anger, my instability gives rise to an idea that death might be equal to silence." "I wouldn't know about that. I was raised on a mostly Elf-crewed vessel before taking my leave to crew for other ships." *** Sylvia (JediKnight@as03-lrx-ar-205-184-30-66.rasserver.net) has quit IRC [Ping timeout] *** Aldric (JediKnight@as01-lrx-ar-205-184-26-99.rasserver.net) has joined #highseas *** Aldric is now known as Sylvia "I just don't want that idea to take prevalence." "If I'm pushed, Curu, *I* don't even know what I'm capable of." [Arsenal] okay, looks like loot is distributed as such: Bourne gets a 600 gp gem and 0 gold, as does Monika. Neil gets a 500 gp gem and 100 gp gold. Whoever takes the amethyst gets a 400 gp gem and 200 gp gold. Everyone else gets 600 gp in gold. * Sylvia continues to observe crew & officer of other ship [Arsenal] so, will the amethyst be claimed by Sylvia, Vesh, or Curuar? "There are disciplines that were taught to me by my mother's people that may help you. I use them when I trance, but they might be of use to you dispite your not being an Elf." I like the goooold. [Arsenal] the ship rocks a little. More than it usually does? ( the dragon! it's ghost is return to haunt us hehe ) I mean, we are on waves here. ;^) [Arsenal] more than it usually does, yes * Neil smirks to Curuar. "I would be honored to have them taught to me when time allows and if you wish to teach." "Hello." * Bourne looks to the side to see what hit us. "This is strange..." * Neil rises. [Arsenal] the ship rocks again. This time, it does feel like something * Sylvia steadies as she continues to observe said others [Arsenal] 's hitting the ship "I have time n... that was odd." * Neil walks to the middle of the ship to keep his footing. * Bourne examines the water ahead carefully for signs of a hidden reef or shoal. ( does it appear the other ship is having the same probs? ) * Monika is very sorely tempted to look over the side... * Curuar moves toward the masts and stands ready. * Veshengo blinks. "Okay, what the heck is going on now?" * Monika takes her belaying pin in her free hand and works her way over to the side... [Arsenal] Syl: nope. 'k "Master Bourne...?!" "Prob a whale saying hello.." oO One could hope.Oo "I don't know! Head up the rigging and look down to see if anything's below us!" * Bourne keeps sailing straight as long as he can spy no dangers ahead. [Arsenal] the ship rocks again. This time, those looking over the side see a dorsal fin split the water * Curuar scrambles up the rigging about mid-way to the crows nest and moves as far out on a spar as he can without compromising his grip and balance. * Veshengo walks over to the side and looks over, mantaining perfect balance. How big is this dorsal fin? [Arsenal] it's a big fin. * Sylvia continues to observe other ship, keeping her legs steady * Bourne probably can't see it, so holds steady. [Arsenal] Vesh, Cur: give me a Wilderness Lore/Survival roll (untrained defaults to Int) (Actually, Wilderness and survival are wis.) [Arsenal] my bad... Wis, then d20+7 * Prozac throws the bones for Veshengo (d20+7) and gets 18. ( grand pappy of sharks wanting another dragon for lunch ) 1d20+3 * Prozac throws the bones for Curuar (1d20+3) and gets 7. [Arsenal] Monika: one from you as well, plz? -1 INT mod's +2, so 6 [Arsenal] Cur: Wis, not Int... see Vesh's comments above 'k 5, then 1d20 * Prozac throws the bones for Monika (1d20) and gets 15. [Arsenal] Vesh, Monika: you two recognize the fin as that of a dire tigershark. [Arsenal] Cur thinks it's a guppy "Shark!" ( yepper wanting another dragon for a meal ) "We got us a shark!" . o O (Oh, is that all. Whew.) [Arsenal] Cur: you spot three more en route. [Arsenal] and closing fast. "We have more than one! And the don't look like mermaids!" "A little spearfishing!" "Yum!" * Curuar gets down from the rigging "Looks like we're having shark tonight!" [Arsenal] As the three newcomers start circling the ship, the one that was bucking you comes right up next to you. Next thing you know, though, the shark seems to have grown arms, and starts climbing the hull. "Uhhh, crap?" "Well, that answers that. They're not sharks." oO That's odd...we've past the dragon a while back... they shouldn't be doing this. Odd behavior of sharks.Oo * Neil casts mage armor on himself * Veshengo draws a Scimitar and a Kukri, and gets ready to make some Sushi. * Monika draws her sword. "Looks like the meal's coming to us!" * Sylvia lowers the spyglass "What do you mean *not* sharks." * Curuar dodges below decks to get into his armor. "I've got to to start wearing the stuff more often." "How many sharks do you know grow arms?!" "And climb ships!" [Arsenal] the wereshark continues its climb. [Arsenal] it's halfway there "Oops." "Stand by to repel boarders!" * Sylvia *balks* "Arms?! By the light!" * Curuar gets back up on deck once he's suited up . o O (Hmm. I suppose blowing it back off the side would be pointless.) [Arsenal] "Knock that thing off my hull!" * Sylvia steps back from the edge and walks back toward the mast. * Neil walks up to the hull, casting grease on what the shark's grabbing "Look at it this way, cap'n! At least they're scraping away some barnacles for us!" * Veshengo grins, keeping a steady footing. [Arsenal] 1d20+4 * Prozac throws the bones for Arsenal (1d20+4) and gets 11. [Arsenal] DC on the grease? ((15)) (Reflex, but they might not get a save as they're climbing.) [Arsenal] it slips, and falls back into the water. "It's been knocked, sir." * Sylvia frowns oO Damn... left the quarterstaff below deck. What grows arms... sharks...hrmmm.Oo * Neil calmly walks back to midship "They'll just climb back up.." [Arsenal] the ships rocks more as all four start bucking the ship. * Bourne stays at the wheel and prepares a Dehydrate spell. [Arsenal] everyone give me a Balance check Hmm.. DX roll, I gues. 3d6 * Prozac throws the bones for Bourne (3d6) and gets 10. Pass. d20+14 * Prozac throws the bones for Veshengo (d20+14) and gets 24. 1d20+8 * Prozac throws the bones for Curuar (1d20+8) and gets 11. 1d20+10 * Prozac throws the bones for Monika (1d20+10) and gets 20. d20+2 * Prozac throws the bones for Neil (d20+2) and gets 8. "Someone stop those things!" * Curuar rolls back onto his feet [Arsenal] the ship is now deadly still. [Arsenal] plus, the wind dies down to nothing. * Veshengo looks around. "Okay, that ain't right either." "How much do you want to bet that this is that ship's doing?!" "Wouldn't take that bet on a dare!" * Bourne looks up. "Uh unh. Now you're on my turf." "Ummm if they're capable of things like that... they might have their own spell casters..." [Arsenal] you start to hear scraping coming from the sides "Captain! Lemme put a gale up! We'll outrun these losers and their boat!" [Arsenal] "Deal with the weresharks first." He braves a look over the side. "Repel boarders!" "VAOTH! Are they digging through the hull?" * Neil walks to a side where he hears nearby scraping. [Arsenal] "No, they... just went in the window to my quarters." "Allright, we're on steady water now... Neil, order up the archers?" "..." * Bourne jumps the railing from the wheel deck and runs for the captain's quarters. * Sylvia does a *doh!* "Weresharks...yes...quarters? They'll come up from below decks then!" [Arsenal] "Exactly." "They'll get on the ship anyway! All men to personal arms! Swords in hand!" * Curuar joins Bourne, his bow at the ready [Arsenal] The sound of some crew getting eaten from below decks comes up. * Sylvia *curses* quietly at the fact her staff is below deck and her spells aren't for combat "Get ready to waste us some sharks!" * Neil rushes below decks * Monika runs down belowdecks * Veshengo glances around, then rushes below decks too. * Bourne readies a Dehydrate spell, if the GM will let me spend a few seconds holding it before I let it off at the first wereshark I see. * Sylvia *cringes* oO May Navor guide them...Oo and begins to spell cast [Arsenal] Okay, you run into one wereshark as soon as you go below. Yer outta luck call shot at -4 if he doesn't wanna hit anybody or does that not work any more for 3rd ed? (Doesn't work. He makes the attack, the person in front acts as -4 cover.) [Arsenal] ranged attack into melee without Precise Shot is a -4 to hit (And if he misses by 4 or less, he hit the other person.) ( that blows... ) (That's because shooting into melee is supposed to be a pain in the ass.) Sylv get her Prayer off, Ars? [Arsenal] Okay, Sylvia's casting Prayer. everyone but the shark gets +1 to hit. ( gonna have a helluva lot more pissed off people playing with those rules... but then again that makes for wonderful inter relations with characters!!! >;) hehehe ) [Arsenal] and the shark is -1 to hit.
